CCC History
Chaengwattana Community Church held its first official meeting as the Evangelical Church of Chaengwattana on Easter Sunday, April, 1992. The church began as the daughter church of the Evangelical Church of Bangkok (ECB) located in downtown Bangkok. At that time, there were three well-known and well-attended Protestant churches in the Bangkok area, all located in the central business section of the city. About this same time, the International School of Bangkok (ISB) began the process of finalizing a new campus and relocating to the north side of the city in the province of Nonthaburi. A group of individuals associated with ECB began to consider starting a new church to minister to this “new” community which was located about 25 kilometers or 45 minutes away from the home church at ECB. As the number of believers living on the North side of the city increased, there was also an increasing need for a more geographically accessible church for those who were unable to travel into the heart of the city for various reasons. Hence, the Evangelical Church of Chaengwattana (ECC) was born. Since ECC was a daughter church of ECB, which was affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), the new church shared this affiliation in the early years.
David and Judy Seckinger were the missionaries with the C&MA that started the ECC. They served the church from 1992 to 1994. The Seckingers were followed at ECC by Paul Utley of Campus Crusade for Christ.
The church first met in Nichada Thani at the ISB school campus, but soon moved to the Rama Gardens hotel that provided a conference room which served the congregation as a meeting room for some time. The church later decided to move to facilities near the center of the population to which the church was ministering and for several years met in the local International Club. Due to healthy growth of the church, 2000 became a year of prayer and planning around more permanent facilities. An ambitious building program was kicked off in 2001 and in April of 2003, the church relocated into its present facilities.
When the church moved back into the Nichada Thani area, the name of the church was changed to Chaengwattana Community Church. At the same time, the formal affiliation with the Christian and Missionary Alliance ended and CCC is now an independent organization which is recognized by the Evangelical Fellowship of Thailand.
