Week Eight: Joseph in Egypt

This week, we turn our focus to the life of Joseph, a powerful story of faith, endurance, and God’s sovereignty in the midst of hardship.

Last week, we saw Jacob return to Bethel, putting away past idols and witnessing the completion of his family with the birth of Benjamin. We were reminded of God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises across generations.

As we move into Joseph’s story, we encounter a family marked by favoritism and deep sibling rivalry. Joseph, Jacob’s beloved son, becomes the target of jealousy and hatred from his brothers. What begins as envy quickly escalates into betrayal, showing how unchecked emotions can lead to destructive actions.

Yet, even in the midst of suffering, rejection, and loss, we see God at work. Joseph’s journey from being sold into slavery to facing false accusations reveals a life marked by faithfulness and integrity. Despite constant trials, Joseph chooses obedience to God, even when no one is watching.

One key moment we reflected on was Joseph’s response to temptation in Potiphar’s house. His refusal was not just about avoiding sin, but about honoring God. His example challenges us to consider how we respond to daily temptations and what steps we take to guard our hearts.

Through group discussion, we explored themes of jealousy, forgiveness, family brokenness, and restoration. We were encouraged to reflect on our own lives where envy may be taking root, where relationships need healing, and how the gospel calls us to respond with grace and truth.

Ultimately, Joseph’s story points us to a greater truth: God is always at work, even in difficult and painful circumstances. What others may intend for harm, God can use for good.

Wrap-Up ReflectionThis week reminded us of God’s character. His faithfulness, sovereignty and redeeming power because God is faithful, we can trust Him in every season, knowing that He is working all things together for His purpose.

As we go into the week, we are encouraged to take one practical step: to trust God more deeply in our current circumstances and to choose obedience, even when it is difficult.
